Beach accessibility for people with disabilities

With the "SEATRAC" system, Siemens and TOBEA, an innovative tech start-up based in Patras, Greece, are offering people with disabilities a unique solution for crossing a sandy beach and getting into the sea without assistance. SEATRAC consists of a specially developed chair mounted on a rail system that allows people to get into and leave the water safely without assistance. The technology improves individual self-determination, promotes inclusion and ensures more equal opportunities for everyone. It is already available on more than 250 beaches worldwide.

It can be a major challenge for people with disabilities to go to the beach and into the sea without assistance. Traditional beaches often lack in the necessary facilities, making it difficult, or even impossible, for people with mobility issues to enjoy beach life. With SEATRAC, an innovative product developed by TOBEA, there is now a solution statement available that enables autonomic access to the sea. Thanks to the advanced control technology from Siemens, SEATRAC guarantees reliable and uninterruptible operation, so people with disabilities can also enjoy life on the beach freely and largely independently.

Technologies reduce barriers

"Our collaboration with TOBEA as part of the SEATRAC project demonstrate our commitment to inclusion and innovation," says Gerhard Gleitsmann, Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Siemens AG. "By using our advanced technologies we reduce barriers. This is another demonstrative example of how we can use innovation to bring positive transformation and improve people's livability."

The "brain" of SEATRAC consists of central control technology from Siemens. It offers advanced communication and technology functions. Functions such as remote control and troubleshooting ensure the system runs smoothly and reliably even in difficult coastal regions. Potential problems are reported promptly by e-mail, so they can be removed in time and SEATRAC always remains operational. The system also includes security measures to prevent unauthorized access and protect its unique algorithms.

"Siemens and TOBEA have joined forces to improve lives of people with disabilities and mobility problems," says Ignatios Fotiou, President of TOBEA and one of the inventors of SEATRAC. "TOBEA relies on Siemens' expertise to develop and manufacture SEATRAC, the first device to help people enjoy the sea largely unaided. We are looking forward to exploring opportunities for developing new products together with Siemens. ”
